NEW YORK GOV. ANDREW Cuomo announced on Wednesday new restrictions across the state as the number of coronavirus cases climbs.

Beginning Friday, any establishment with a state liquor license, including bars and restaurants, must close at 10 p.m. The 10 p.m. curfew also applies to gyms.

Additionally, the governor said the state's contact tracing has revealed that parties are one of the greatest spreaders of COVID-19, so beginning Friday indoor gatherings at private residences will be limited to 10 people.

"COVID is getting worse by the day. All around the country," Cuomo later tweeted. "The fall surge is here. We are taking action but we need New Yorkers to do their part. Wear a mask. Get tested. Follow all health guidelines. Take this seriously."

The state performed 164,300 coronavirus tests on Tuesday, of which 4,820, or 2.93%, were positive. Total hospitalizations climbed to 1,628 and 21 people died. New York is also dealing with several hot spots throughout the state, in which the positivity rate is 4.96%. Without the clusters, the statewide positivity rate is 2.58%.

New York was among the first epicenters of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. and long had the most virus cases in the country. After implementing strict social distancing measures, the state was able to reduce it's infection rate to one of lowest in the country.

Health officials report more than 536,145 cases in the state and more than 33,700 deaths. The U.S. has recorded more than 10.33 million cases and more than 240,520 deaths.
