AMERICANS' SATISFACTION with the way things are going in the U.S. has dropped more than 30 points since a 15-year high earlier this year, reaching the lowest level in nine years.

A Gallup poll released Tuesday found that just 13% of Americans report being satisfied with the state of the nation, a 32 percentage point drop from a 15-year high in February. National satisfaction has not been this low since November 2011.

National satisfaction now sits just six points above an all-time low of 7% in October 2008 after the financial crisis.

The latest poll was taken between July 1 and July 23, as the nation grappled with surging coronavirus cases and deaths, as well as a historic economic downturn.

Democrats were already largely dissatisfied with the state of the nation, so the shift is mostly occurring among Republicans. The poll found that satisfaction in the party in the most recent survey, 20%, is about half of what it was a mong ago, 39%. It's also a 60-point drop from February's 80% satisfaction rate.

Despite an overall dissatisfaction with the state of the country, a separate Gallup poll found that most Republicans, 91%, approve of the job President Donald Trump is doing in office.

Satisfaction among Democrats, 7%, remains mostly unchanged from last month's 6%. However, June's rate was a 9-point drop from May's 15%.
